The John Arnold Band at Billy Bob's Texas.
The John Arnold Band traces its roots to 1980 (when John was named Male Vocalist of the Year at the Oklahoma Opry). They quickly became very popular with Oklahoma audiences and played many of the state's biggest venues.

In 1983, they entered a local music contest on a lark, and easily won both it and the state finals. That sent them to the Wrangler Country Music Showdown national finals in Nashville--where they won again, this time beating out 50 other artists for the $50,000 grand prize in a nationally televised performance that included their own original song, "Take Another Chance."

They soon were signed to a recording contract with Compleat/Polygram Records, as well as with a Nashville booking agency, and charted with their first single, "How We Gonna Know If It's Love," produced by respected Nashville producer Garth Fundis (Alabama, Don Williams, Trisha Yearwood). Playing major events around the nation, they were featured at the inaugural ball for Oklahoma Governor George Nigh, and played both the National Governors' Convention and the National State Attorneys General convention.

The John Arnold Band has always played not only popular cover tunes but also the tight, well-crafted songs of such famed songwriters as their friends Kevin Welch, John Hadley and John Ims. They've toured nationally with both Ricky Skaggs and Exile, and played such famous gigs as the National Finals Rodeo and in the Cotton Bowl Parade. They appeared frequently on both "Nashville Now with Ralph Emery" and "Crook and Chase" on TNN.

They've toured extensively around the country, once covering over 25,000 miles in just four months. Deciding to put constant nationwide touring behind them for a while, the band signed with a Texas agent and spent several years playing the largest dancehalls in Texas, including performing on the main stage at the Texas State Fair for several years running. Finally moving back home, they played Oklahoma's most popular clubs, such as Rodeo Romeo's, as well as made regular appearances at the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City.

Recently, the band decided to scale back their frequent club dates, but are still in great demand. Consequently, they've focused primarily on private parties, corporate events and public festivals, playing their unique mix of country, swing, jazz and rock.

In 2003, they reunited with old friends from the founding days of Red Dirt music at the Blue Rose Cafe reunion in Norman, Oklahoma, and much of The John Arnold Band appears on the resulting CD, Blue Rose Cafe: A Reunion and Tribute to Pat Long. Still one of Oklahoma's most popular bands, they're currently working on recording some of their material for an upcoming CD release.
